A dog named "Kobe" has become an internet sensation after reportedly saving a neighborhood in Pennsylvania from a potential gas leak explosion.

A video of the heroic husky from Philadelphia went viral and his owner is now telling the tale in a new book, Knewz.com has learned.

Chanell Bell said just before Christmas, her loyal companion alerted her to a gas leak that could have been disastrous for the whole block.

In her book published on Wednesday, January 10, titled The Dog That Saved The Block Before Christmas, Bell recounts how Kobe "uncovers a silent danger threatening his neighborhood's festive cheer."

She first told the story in an Instagram video posted from her account @thenames_babe on December 24, 2023.

Bell said Kobe began digging holes in her yard, and while she "didn't think anything of it," she also thought, "'This is not like him.'"

She explained that she "was having some issues" with her heater earlier in the month and had gotten a handheld gas reader. She used it to check her home and found no traces of gas, but when Kobe began digging in the yard again on December 21, she decided to check the hole with the reader.

When she did, the detector confirmed the presence of gas and she discovered the leak.

A maintenance crew "worked nonstop for three days" to fix the leak, and Bell said they told her a light switch could have blown up her home.

"I'm just so thankful, thankful for God, thankful for my baby boy," she said in the video.

Kobe rose to internet fame as the post went viral, accumulating more than 120,500 likes. Social media responded with praise for the pup, with one viewer commenting, "That dog saved lives...give him a medal" and another saying, "We need a children’s book with him as the protagonist."

Bell apparently agreed, wasting no time getting underway on the novel.

As of Wednesday, January 17, her book ranked at the top of the category of new children’s books related to Kwanzaa, according to The Guardian.

"Perfect for both kids and adults, this enchanting book blends suspense, friendship, and the spirit of the season, creating a timeless story that will warm the hearts of readers of all ages," Bell wrote on the back cover. "With his keen senses and unwavering determination, Kobe not only saves the day but teaches us the true meaning of family and unity."

In August of 2023, about 300 miles west of Bell's neighborhood, a gas explosion killed six people and destroyed three homes, The Associated Press reported.
