Non-partisan political pollster, The Cook Critical Report, chalked three states including battleground South Carolina to Kamala Harris.
Knewz.com has learned that the latter is among seven hotly-contested states and the national lead—all leaning toward the new Democrat elect.
Amy Walter, writing on behalf of the organization noted that South Carolina has parted from its pro-right dominance in favor of a bi-partisan deadlock—and the reason for this is that the left-supporting residents have decided to make known their stance.
It is “not because Harris is cutting into Trump’s vote, but because Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents are coming home,” Walter elaborated.
“Back in May, the Cook Political Report Swing State Project survey showed Biden trailing Trump by seven points (41% to 48%).”
“The most recent Swing State Project poll taken in late July/early August, found Trump taking a similar share of the vote (47%), but Harris had improved on Biden’s share of the vote by seven points and sat at 48%,” the statistician noted.
“Her success was driven by increasing her margins with Democrats (+13), Black voters (+4) and independent voters (+13).”
Given the fact that Trump has visited the state three times in a month, Walter claims that the former president's campaign is aware of the tide of changing sentiments:
“The Trump campaign can’t afford to let North Carolina slip,” Walter said. “If Harris were to win just North Carolina and the Blue Wall states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, she could afford to lose every other competitive Sun Belt state — Nevada, Georgia, and Arizona — and still win the Electoral College vote.”
Walter also noted that Minnesota and New Hampshire, come November, would be more pro-Democrat than it is in August.
“Back in late June, for example, a St. Anselm College Survey showed Trump narrowly edging Biden in New Hampshire — 44% to 42%. A mid-August St. Anselm poll put Harris ahead by seven points — 51% to 44%.”
“We’ve seen a similar “snap back” in polling in Minnesota as well. A May SurveyUSA poll taken for local Minnesota TV stations showed Biden leading Trump by just two points. The late July poll by SurveyUSA – taken prior to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s selection as Harris’s running mate – found Harris leading Trump by 10 points,” Walter observed.
The Democratic front, while aware of their increasing gains, has no intention of getting comfortable.
This sentiment was encouraged by Hilary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention when she said:
“For the next 78 days, we need to work harder than we ever have. We need to beat back the dangers that Trump and his allies pose to the rule of law and our way of life. Don’t get distracted or complacent. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Volunteer. Be proud champions for the truth,” she told her audience, per Time Magazine.
The call to action is not completely unfounded.
James Carville, an illustrious left-leaning political analyst warned the party, saying: I challenge Democrats with some caution here. First of all, most want to say we have to win by three in the popular vote to win the Electoral College. So when you see a poll that says we two up, well, that’s actually, you’re one down, if the poll is correct.”
