Hours away from the anticipated Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, 10 former United States military officials released a letter calling the former President a "danger to national security and democracy."

Knewz.com has learned that the retired military generals also stated that they believe Vice President Harris is the only candidate this year who is "fit" for the Presidency.

The letter was signed by retired U.S. military General Larry Ellis and Retired Rear Admiral Michael Smith, among others, and accused Trump of disparaging service members and putting them in “harm’s way.”

The letter also criticized the former President's "chaotic approach" to Afghanistan ahead of the withdrawal of American forces, as well as his deal to free 5,000 Taliban militants.

"This chaotic approach severely hindered the Biden-Harris Administration's ability to execute the most orderly withdrawal possible and put our service members and our allies at risk," the former officials alleged.

The retired military generals further stated that Trump is "a danger to our national security and democracy."

"Frankly stated, Donald Trump is a danger to our national security and our democracy. His own former National Security Advisors, Defense Secretaries, and Chiefs of Staff have said so," the letter released by the National Security Leaders for America read.

"He continually disrespects those who serve in uniform, including wounded warriors, prisoners of war, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. He disparaged fallen heroes as 'suckers' and 'losers' and insulted the heroic service of the late Senator John McCain."

"At his core, he does not understand selfless service and sacrifice, and he should never be allowed to again serve as commander-in-chief of the greatest fighting force in the world," the document mentioned.

On the other hand, the letter – which was made public on September 9 – described Vice President Harris as "the best — and only — presidential candidate in this race who is fit to serve as our commander in chief."

The released letter also said that the Vice President "has demonstrated her ability to take on the most difficult national security challenges in the Situation Room and on the international stage."

"... From rallying our allies against Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine to standing shoulder to shoulder with our allies in the Indo-Pacific against China's provocative actions, to advancing U.S. leadership on space and artificial intelligence."

The retired military officials further said, "Our service members and their loved ones deserve a President with the temperament and track record to serve as commander-in-chief. One who is willing to make tough decisions, who takes accountability, and who always has our back. That leader is Kamala Harris."

It is worth noting that the letter surfaced at around the same time as the Harris Presidential campaign released a new advertisement featuring statements from some of Trump's senior former cabinet officials warning against the possible "risks" posed by the second term of Trump's presidency.

The video featured clips from former Vice President Mike Pence, former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, former National Security Advisor John Bolton, and General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Trump administration.

"In 2016, Donald Trump said he would choose only the best people to work in his White House... Now those people have a warning for America: Trump is not fit to be president again," the campaign ad said.

In one of the featured statements, General Milley said, "We don’t take an oath to a king or queen, or a tyrant or a dictator. And we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator."

It has been reported by The Telegraph that the campaign ad will air on Fox News and in West Palm Beach, Florida, "in a bid to rile Trump in the home media market of his main residence, Mar-a-Lago."

The two developments came ahead of the September 10 Presidential debate on ABC News that will see Harris and Trump face each other as Presidential candidates for the first time.

It is worth noting that the national polls conducted by various agencies show the two Presidential challengers with a minute margin between their standings.

While a national poll by The New York Times and Siena College showed Trump commanding a narrow lead over the Vice President, the national polling average, as of September 9, put Harris on a two-point lead over Trump with 49% of votes.
