Russian drones have once again breached the airspace of NATO member state Romania, triggering an air alert in the country for the second night in a row.

Knewz.com that the UAVs entered Romanian territory en route to carrying out a drone strike on Ukraine.

Reports suggest that the overnight Russian volley on Thursday, July 25, consisted of a total of 38 Shahed-131/136 attack drones.

Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk reported that the drone strike targeted Ukrainian infrastructure in several regions, including Odesa and parts of Central Ukraine.

The attack was mostly thwarted by anti-aircraft missile troops and the electronic warfare units of the Air Force of Ukraine, Commander Oleshchuk reported.

He further wrote that Ukrainian air defenses in the Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Sumy, Zhytomyr, and Cherkasy regions were active throughout the attempted drone strike, and managed to down 25 Shahed-131/136 UAVs launched by Russia.

Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kyper, however, reported several instances of damage caused by falling debris from the drones.

He mentioned that the attempted Russian drone strike partially destroyed an administrative building and caused a small fire in the region.

"For the second night in a row, the enemy resorted to shelling the south of Odesa. Izmail district is under attack again. The Russians attacked the border with attack drones. As a result of the shelling, the administrative building was partially destroyed, followed by a fire," Kyper wrote on Telegram.

He added that the fire has been brought under control by the State Emergency Service.

"Also, 2 people were injured as a result of debris falling on a private house. One person was hospitalized in a medical facility in a moderate condition. Doctors are providing all necessary assistance," Kyper further reported.

The district administration of Izmail posted on Facebook that the city of Vylkove was attacked by a total of 11 Shahed drones, which destroyed port infrastructure and a private residence.

On the other hand, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Oleshchuk reported that the air defenses lost track of three of the Russian Shahed drones after they flew into the airspace of NATO-member Romania.

The airspace breach triggered an air alert in Romania on the night of July 24.

"Last night, around 01:20, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations issued an RO-Alert message for the Northern area of ​​Tulcea County, informing the population about the possibility of some objects falling from the airspace, on the territory near the border with Ukraine," read the air alert broadcast by the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) of Tulcea County.

"We mention once again that the role of the message is one of informing and preventing the population in the area where it is transmitted and must be treated as such."

"We make it clear that no territory of our country is targeted by the attacks of the Russian Federation, and these messages are sent to inform the population about the fact that there is a possibility that objects resulting from the destruction of unmanned aerial vehicles may fall on Romanian territory," the alert further mentioned.

According to Romanian news outlets, a similar air alert was broadcast in Tulcea County on Tuesday night, July 23, prompting two F-16 fighter jets to take to the skies and assess the situation.

Russia has shown a trend of breaching the airspace of NATO members, as Knewz.com reported in September 2023 that the Romanian army's radar surveillance system indicated a possible unauthorized entry into the national airspace, with a signal detected on a route to the city of Galati.

In June 2024, a Russian bomber aircraft crossed into the airspace of Finland by around 1.5 miles, triggering a response from the country’s defense minister, Antti Häkkänen:
