A newly emerged footage from the Ukrainian frontlines showed a Russian soldier thwarting an assault from an enemy drone by throwing his gun at it and making his escape.

Knewz.com has learned that the incident occurred as two Russian troopers were ambushed out in the open in an unspecified location.

Rigged with explosives, the Ukrainian drone had been following the two soldiers, looking for a chance to swoop in for the kill.

In a bid to save themselves, the Russian servicemen could be seen shooting at the approaching drone, although unsuccessfully, since the drone kept buzzing around, making itself a difficult target.

However, as soon as the drone attempted to go for the kill and drew closer, the Russian soldier made one last desperate attempt to thwart the attack—he threw his Kalashnikov rifle at the explosive-rigged UAV.

As seen in the footage, the plan worked. Upon making contact with the hand-thrown projectile, the Ukrainian drone erupted in a large explosion, which seemingly pushed the Russian soldier backward.

While the soldiers could be seen lying on the ground in the aftermath of the encounter, reports have mentioned that they were far enough from the explosion and suffered no injuries.

One of the reports from Russia about the incident mentioned, "Throwing a machine gun at an enemy FPV drone saves our fighters from death."

"[The two Russian soldiers] are both alive," another report confirmed.

Ukrainian drones have been responsible for wiping out significant chunks of Russian forces and war equipment over the course of the ongoing war.

It is worth noting that on September 9, Ukraine carried out what has been deemed one of the largest drone attacks in Russia since the Ukraine war began.

The overnight assault saw a salvo of 144 Ukrainian drones rain upon Russia, targeting areas in and around Moscow.

The Ministry shared a statement about the massive drone strike on Telegram, saying:

"Over the past night, when the Kyiv regime attempted to carry out a terrorist attack using unmanned aerial vehicles on targets on the territory of the Russian Federation, duty air defense systems destroyed and intercepted 144 Ukrainian aircraft-type UAVs."

"72 UAVs [were intercepted] over the territory of the Bryansk region, 20 over the territory of the Moscow region, 14 over the territory of the Kursk region, 13 over the territory of the Tula region, eight over the territory of the Belgorod region, seven over the territory of the Kaluga region, five over the territory of the Voronezh region, four over the territory of the Lipetsk region, and one over the territory of the Oryol region," the Ministry added.

The major drone assault resulted in the death of a 46-year-old woman in the city of Ramenskoye in the Moscow region, with reports mentioning the destruction of three high-story residential buildings.

On the other hand, Russia has mounted the first large-scale counteroffensive against the Kursk incursion by Ukraine this week, reportedly making significant progress over the two-day-long operation.

Russian milbloggers have reported that Putin's forces have already managed to liberate nine settlements in Kursk from the occupying Ukrainian soldiers.

The Ukrainian news outlet Kyiv Post offered a more precise estimate, reporting that Russia has reclaimed around 58 square miles of lost territory so far.
