The Secret Service has come under the spotlight again—this time, actually stopping an agitator before he could cause any harm.
Knewz.com has learned that this incident comes as the government protection service is still smarting from the blows delivered by indignant GOP senators over Donald Trump's brush with a would-be assassin during a campaign stop in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Forty-five-year-old Harry Heymann who lives around the corner from where Kamala Harris’s stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, was dining at a Tribeca restaurant, allegedly got into a heated altercation with Secret Service agents waiting outside.
He confronted one of Emhoff’s minders who was wearing plain clothes—oblivious to the fact that he was part of the service. Heymann then ripped off both vehicles’ license plate covers, attracting members of the New York Police Department (NYPD) to the scene.
Heymann’s issue, as observed from his previous outbursts, was cars bearing NYPD placards being allowed to park anywhere instead of finding designated public parking.
He was detained and charged with obstruction of governmental administration and criminal mischief for his actions.
Reports also indicate sightings of Emhoff being escorted out of the restaurant where she was with a friend and into one of the waiting SUVs.
The Secret Service has since released a statement saying:
“On Tuesday afternoon, an individual approached two United States Secret Service vehicles parked in lower Manhattan and, without provocation, caused damage to the rear license plate area of both.”
“Secret Service Agents quickly detained the individual until local authorities arrived and placed the individual into police custody. At no point was any protectee in danger as a result of this incident.”
Heymann complained to the police weeks prior about a vehicle with an obscured number plate. The case was closed with police claiming that there was no cause for action.
Heymann took to social media around the time to vent, saying:
“Apparently driving around in a ghost car is perfectly fine with @NYPD1Pct if you’ve got a fireman’s placard and blue tape on your truck.”
This incident comes at a time when the Secret Service is on the hook for the Thomas Matthew Crooks shooting that nearly killed Former President Trump.
Following the assassination attempt, the agency’s head, Kimberly Cheatle, was forced by Republican lawmakers to resign.
More recently her temporary replacement, Ronald Rowe Jr. faced an irate Josh Hawley.
Notably, Rowe, unlike Cheatle, held his own. When pressed for the difference between the security details for Joe Biden and Trump, he said: “There is a difference between the sitting president of the United States ... the difference? National command authority to launch a nuclear strike, sir!”
Hawley, unhappy with the responses he was receiving, said: “Stop interrupting me. You are refusing to answer clear and direct questions.”
Rowe (like Cheatle) claimed that he was shamed by the shooting, admitting: “That roof should have had better coverage, and we will get to the bottom of [it] if there were any policy violations.”
