A new survey has been released indicating the states where employees are the most unhappy with their jobs—and Alaska, America’s northern territory, has taken first place.
Knewz.com has learned that the study used data from the United States Bureau of Statistics, specifically the number of people resigning, to arrive at these conclusions.
The month of March 2024, saw 15,000 Alaskans walk out on their employers which equates to 4,5% of the northernmost workforce.
This apparent job dissatisfaction increased by 4,000 people since 2023 when the number of walkouts reached 11,000.
The state ranking second in the study was Wyoming where 3.4% of the population quit their workplaces during the same month. This figure translates to 10,000 people which, like Alaska, is higher than the number of walkouts experienced in 2023, even if only by 1,000 people.
Montana takes up third place with its 3% resignation rate for March 2024. The so-called Treasure State saw 16,000 of its citizens leave their jobs. While this figure dwarfs that of Alaska and Wyoming it is proportionate to the state's population (1,142,746).
In fourth place is Idaho which saw 2.9% of its workers resign. This percentage translates to 25,000 of its population of nearly two million.
Fifth place is shared by Florida and Virginia where 2.8% of the workforce resigned. This figure amounted to approximately 273,000 and 20,000 job leavers respectively.
Tennessee follows at sixth, with 2.6% of its workers handing in their resignation during March 2024.
For said month, Tennessee experienced around 88,000 workers resigning from their jobs—which unlike upward trending states spelled a decrease of 11,000 workers compared to March 2023 when 99,000 people (3%) left their jobs.
Seventh place is shared by Delaware, Kansas, and North Dakota. In these states, the job leaver percentage reached 2.5.
For Kansas, this means 37,000, 12,000 in Delaware, and 11,000 in North Dakota.
The poll noted that seven states took eighth place with 2,4% of employees resigning and another seven scooping up ninth at 2.3%.
Yet another seven fell in at the tenth position and a 2.2% with America's most content workers hailing from Washington, Pennsylvania, and California.
The aforementioned areas boasted a 1.5% resignation rate in the sample month which translates to 55,000, 93,000, and 262,000 work leavers respectively.
Chief executive officer, John Hennessey at Hennessey Digital responsible for the study, observed:
“From the results, it’s clear to see that a steady stream of workers across America are constantly leaving their jobs, be it for retirement or a different career. Louisiana experienced one of the largest changes, with an impressive 36% decrease in quitters between 2023 and 2024. It’ll be interesting to see if new states make the top ten ranking in the future.”
