Ukraine's drone forces have launched what the Kremlin is calling its largest-ever bombardment on the Russian Capital.
Knewz.com has learned that with the admission came the claims that the autocracy’s air defense systems downed all of the projectiles.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, 11 of the unmanned craft were shot near the country’s capital, Moscow, and 34 in four other regions, including Bryansk on the border of Kursk and Ukraine.
There have thus far been no reports of damage. Still, Moscow mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, has since dubbed the attack the largest attempt on the country’s administrative seat since the start of Vladimir Putin’s so-called Special Military Operation.
Ukraine's military intelligence division has acknowledged responsibility for the barrage with its chief, Kyrylo Budanov, claiming 50 drones targeted a signals intelligence center near Moscow and the nearby Ostafyevo airport.
Projectiles were also directed to the Millerovo military airbase in the Rostov region bordering Ukraine.
The total number of drones shot down, according to the Russian war administration, is 45.
This development comes as Ukraine fortifies its position on the territory it captured in Kursk while simultaneously trying to expand it.
Newsweekreported an unnamed Russian military blogger’s claims that Ukrainian troops attacked a border near the northern Chernihiv region at 7 PM local time.
There they clashed with Chechen special forces and were repelled. The region’s governor, Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed the fray.
His version of events dictated that a “sabotage and reconnaissance group” attempted to enter the region but was halted by military and State Security (FSB) border guards.
“The situation at the site of the clash has been stabilized and is under the control of the regional operational headquarters,” he said.
Various other entities gave their accounts of the incident, but the size of the attacking forces differed from person to person.
Telegram channel “Two Majors” cited sources saying the Ukrainian attackers were a “small group of saboteurs” and that “no one was bringing field artillery.”
Their advance was met by ten Chechen “Akmat” fighters and eight border guards. Russian military correspondent, Yuri Kotenok, rubbished this report and stated that the Ukrainian element was a “reinforced company tactical group.”
Another pro-Russian report by MashMedia claimed that the attempted incursion transpired twice an hour apart. The outlet's Telegram account claimed the attacking force comprised 200 men and three armored vehicles.
“As Mash learned, three Ukrainian Armed Forces infantry fighting vehicles and saboteurs were spotted near the border at approximately 19:10. They were armed with NATO rifles similar to the Czech Bren-2. After half an hour of fighting (by 19:40), the enemy retreated with serious losses,” the report read.
“By 20:30, the second wave of the attack with reinforcements began - again unsuccessfully. At approximately 21:00, the sabotage and reconnaissance groups retreated. Now the entrance to the Klimovsky district is blocked by checkpoints.”
Kyiv is yet to comment on the matter.
