Chris Bohjalian's The Red Lotus is set in Vietnam and revolves around couple Alexis and Austin, who have just fallen in love. They first met six months ago when Alexis, an emergency-room nurse, sutured a bullet wound in Austin's arm. They take a bike tour around the country so Austin can show her his passion for cycling and also pay respects to those who fought in the war. One day when Alexis is waiting for him to return from a ride, he doesn't show up. In a search to find him, she uncovers a series of strange lies that make her question everything about him.
