Why are the holidays such a sacred time of year? I'd say, it's because it gives us an excuse to show our loved ones how well we know them — is there anything better than seeing the look on their faces when they open a gift you knew they would love? In my household, that usually means something grilling- or ice-cream-related for my dad and something fitness-related for my mom. And while it's always a treat to see my dad geek out over a high-tech meat thermometer, I sometimes find that figuring out the perfect gift for the women in my life becomes as much a meaningful exercise for me as it is a great gift for them (no disrespect, Dad).
So that means taking the extra second to think about their favorite activities, the little things that make them happy, and what role they play in my life. Since pretty much all the women I know have some kind of wellness or fitness practice, I turned to one of my favorite brands, Athleta, to find gifts to honor the women I couldn't live without.

My mom is a connoisseur of the snuggly sweater. Though she lives in Florida, anytime it dips below 70 degrees, you can find her in some version of a cozy pullover or zip-up. All three ultrasoft sweaters would fit the bill and look great. I can see her wearing any of these both while we're cuddled up in front of a (fake) fire when I come home for the holidays and when she heads to an evening yoga class.

I'm an only child, so I chose some items for my cousin, but these could also work for a sister! I'm lucky enough to live in the same city as my cousin, and we often go to yoga or barre classes together. When thinking about what to get, it's great that Athleta has inclusive sizing that is made for all shapes and sizes — and you can't go wrong with jewel tones. I know my cuz would love this outfit — I'd pair it with a gift card to her favorite studio, because the best part of the gift is getting to work out together!

My best friend and I have known each other since we were 14 — she's been the most outgoing and confident person since the day we met. She's all about bright colors and making a statement with her fashion choices, so anything neon or printed fits right in with her bold personality. Remind your BFF how much of a star you think she is by gifting her with activewear that's going to inspire her to be her most courageous self.

After all that holiday shopping, you deserve to get a little something for yourself. Plus, you'll need a new outfit to wear with your BFF when you hit the gym on Jan. 1. I love these pieces because they're multifunctional — a tapered sweatpant can take you from the couch on Christmas morning to your Pilates class the next day, while a trendy puffer vest is the icing on your activewear outfit cake. No matter what you choose for yourself, remember to take a moment to show your body a little kindness and gratitude for carrying you through this life — in style.
