The Morning Routine This Yoga Teacher Follows to Start Her Day on the Right Note

Sipping a cup of tea. Standing under a hot shower. Moving through a gentle yoga flow. Whatever it is, we all have at least one morning ritual that makes us feel alive, alert, and ready to take on the day. For yoga teacher and influencer Janice Liou, it all starts with meditation.
On a typical morning, she first tunes into how her body feels with a short 10-minute meditation. Janice focuses on her breath, visualizes the day she wants to have, and sets a personal mantra before even getting out of bed. Of course, the past few weeks have been anything but typical, but Janice said the extra time at home has made her even more grateful for her usual morning meditation. "Now is the time to really amp up your morning routine to focus on your self-care," Janice said.

Janice was already used to doing some of her work as a content creator from home, but she said even people who typically love going into the office every day might find some freedom in remote work. "Working from home has many benefits — one of them being the ability to slow down," she said. Janice believes this time at home is a golden opportunity to create a morning routine that works for you, even if that just means taking five extra minutes to sip your coffee before the workday begins.
Naturally, this yoga teacher starts each day with a morning practice (after getting a quick jolt of energy from her morning cup of coffee). Moving through each pose helps Janice fully wake up and get ready for the day. If she feels like a little more TLC, she'll lie on an acupressure mat for a few minutes at the end of her practice.

Next on her agenda? Breakfast — although Janice admitted it's really more like brunch by the time she rolls up her yoga mat. The menu varies, but Janice usually goes for simple, healthy dishes, like homemade smoothies, avocado toast and eggs, or yogurt topped with honey and fresh fruit.

None of the elements of her morning routine are groundbreaking on their own, but taken together, Janice said they set her up for a positive, productive day. "No matter how the day ends up going, I have my morning intention," she explained.
