Kimmi has spent her life and career researching, exploring, writing, and telling stories that are designed to move and inspire audiences. A professionally-trained actor and published author, Kimmi began telling stories on stage at The Moth, winning several awards, and going on to be a lead performer to sold-out audiences at FringeNYC. In 2007, Kimmi’s on-stage performance was adapted into a memoir published by Dutton/ NAL. Kimmi then spent the following decade helping other people tell their stories. Focusing on academics and education, she’s taught at Mediabistro, Gotham Writers' Workshop, UCLA Writers' Program, and The Open Center. She led “Sister Circle,” a social-emotional learning group for 8th-grade girls, at Bank Street College–a high school completion and college access program–where she was awarded “Teacher of the Year.” Using that professional focus, she founded BUB in 2019 as a place to demystify and make accessible data-based information about ‘growing up boy’ and how the stories we are told about gender can negatively suppress a boy’s ability to express their authenticity and emotion.
