Celebrity beauty brands are a dime a dozen nowadays. Between Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty, Beyoncé's Cécred hair-care line, and Rihanna's Fenty Beauty (just to name a few), a celeb-founded makeup or skin-care line isn't a novelty anymore. A new population of beauty entrepreneurs has semi-recently entered the foray, however: athletes.

A handful of athletes have expanded their competitive skills into the beauty space recently, including some pretty heavy hitters. With dedication that spans beyond their sport, athletes including Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, and LeBron James, and more have released beauty brands that promise results as impressive as their stats on the field.

Even Dwayne Johnson (yes, as in "The Rock") has entered the game, creating a men's personal care brand appropriately called Papatui, which is a portmanteau that nods to his Samoan heritage. After all, self-care and beauty maintenance aren't just for teens on TikTok; everyone deserves to invest time and money into their routine. With a collection of multi-purpose products and high-quality ingredients, we've taken a vested interest in these athletes' beauty brands.

Ahead are some of our favorite athlete-owned beauty brands, including editor-approved product recommendations from each brand.

Serena Williams's Wyn Beauty

Brand:Wyn Beauty

Athlete: Serena Williams

What It Is: A skin-focused makeup brand with 10 products in 91 shades, founder Serena Williams promises that her products are "made to move in." Between competing in tennis matches across the globe and appearing on red carpets (we're still thinking about her Met Gala look), Williams knows a thing or two about always showing up as your best self, which is precisely the goal of her brand. And Wyn Beauty doesn't just specialize in one product. The line includes products for eyes, lips, and skin in one of the broadest shade ranges we've ever seen. Wyn promises that everyone will find their match.

PS Product Recommendation: The Featuring You Hydrating Skin Enhancing Tint SPF 30 ($29) is a multipurpose face product that delivers many of benefits. Formulated with glycerin and SPF 30, this skin tint is perfect for those looking for an SPF-based skin tint that will also hydrate the face. Plus, did we mention it comes in 36 shades? Game, set, match. Read PS editor Ariel Baker's review of Wyn Skin Tint.

Dwayne Johnson's Papatui

Brand: Papatui

Athlete: Dwayne Johnson

What It Is: Johnson has entered the beauty space, releasing a men's personal care brand that includes 12 products ranging from tattoo, face, and body care. In a press release, Johnson said that Papatui was inspired by his grandfather and his Samoan heritage. "My Samoan grandfather, the High Chief Peter Maivia, was the first man who taught me what men's care was all about . . . [he] was one of my heroes."

PS Product Recommendation: The Papatui Enhancing Tattoo Balm ($10) is the perfect product for anyone looking to give their tats a little extra definition. Infused with mango butter and coconut oil, this balm not only delivers a healing sheen to your body ink but also keeps the skin hydrated.

Kelly Slater's Freaks of Nature

Brand: Freaks of Nature

Athlete: Kelly Slater

What It Is: Who better to start a sunscreen brand than pro surfer Kelly Slater? The 11-time world champion just launched his new SPF-driven skin-care brand, Freaks of Nature, which is, of course, inspired by the countless hours he's spent catching waves in the sun. Although he admittedly sometimes ignored SPF in his younger years — "It's kind of amazing I still have skin after all this time," Slater told People — he recognizes the importance of having sunscreen that lasts all day. The brand has three key products: the Deeper Dive Moisturizer Serum Gel, the Daily Defender SPF30 100% Mineral Sunscreen, and the Daily System SPF30 Sunscreen and Moisturizer Serum Gel.

PS Product Recommendation: With its sleek packaging, the Daily System SPF30 Sunscreen and Moisturizer Serum Gel ($74) promises a splash of hydration and sun protection that lasts. The formula is water resistant for up to 40 minutes — perfect for those heading out to (safely) catch some rays this summer.

LeBron James's The Shop

Brand:The Shop

Athlete: LeBron James

What It Is: If you're familiar with LeBron James's non-basketball-related business ventures, you may know the name "The Shop" from his barbershop-based talk show. Now, he's launching a men's grooming line of seven products under that same name. The line consists of a face wash, a leave-in conditioner for beards, and five other products that complete a comprehensive self-care routine for men. Each product is less than $10 and can be found at Walmart.

PS Product Recommendation:The Shop Face Wash Daily Exfoliating Cleanser ($10) is the perfect everyday face wash. It is loaded with beneficial skin-care ingredients like vitamin B5, glycerin, and castor oil that leave a clean canvas for the next steps of your routine. We are always on board with an effective face wash that only costs $10.

Michael Strahan's Daily Defense

Brand: Daily Defense

Athlete: Michael Strahan

What It Is: Former NFL player Michael Strahan launched his men's personal care brand in 2022: Daily Defense, a clean, sustainable skin care and grooming brand that can be found in drugstores. The athlete-turned-morning show host has faced his fair share of skin-affecting career moves (aka, being under harsh lights for a broadcast or dealing with acne from the sweat on a helmet), and he told PS that's what inspired him to create his line. "I took all those years of trial and error, and I brought that into this new Michael Strahan Daily Defense skin and shave line," he said in an interview.

PS Product Recommendation: We love the Daily Defense Michael Strahan Face and Neck Moisturizer Moisturizer ($8). Not only does this product have an impressively low price point, but it also contains activated silk, a hydrating ingredient created from natural silk protein, leaving you with moisturized and glowing skin.

Naomi Osaka's Kinlo

Naomi Osaka's Kinlo

Brand: Kinlo

Athlete: Naomi Osaka

What It Is: For a tennis pro like Naomi Osaka, it's important to have multipurpose and effective skin-care products. That's why she created Kinlo, her personal skin-care brand that targets melanin-rich skin. With over 10 products developed in partnership with dermatologists of color, Kinlo's range of body and skin-care products is worthy of a purchase.

PS Product Recommendation: If you have dark skin, it can be difficult to find a sunscreen that blends seamlessly, but Osaka's Kinlo Golden Rays Sunscreen SPF 50+ ($12) gets the job done. Her formula boasts a mineral sunscreen for major defense against UVAs but without the white cast.

Venus Williams's EleVen

Brand: EleVen

Athlete: Venus Williams

What It Is: Venus Williams, another tennis pro, knows a thing or two about how to stay comfortable and protected on and off the courts, which is why the star created her athletic-wear brand, EleVen. Not only does this brand sell comfortable (and cute) activewear, but it also boasts a collection of SPF products that will keep you protected from UV rays all day long. Unfortunately, EleVen has temporarily stopped production of its products (according to the site, it's taking "a moment to refine our strategies and enhance the overall brand experience"), but fear not, it promises a comeback soon.
