34 Olympic Rings Tattoos That Are Good As Gold

The 2024 Paris Olympics have come to a close, but during the games, athletes from all over the world were showing their pride in various ways. We spent countless hours drooling over the Olympic-themed manicures, but some athletes chose to showcase their pride in more permanent ways, like with Olympic rings tattoos. Peeking out from all matters of uniforms, the design is a marking of countless hours of hard work in each athletes' respective sport.

The five interconnected rings, which are depicted in colors of blue, black, red, yellow, and green, are inked across athletes in a variety of styles. Some tattoos feature all-black ink, like Team USA gymnast Sunisa Lee's, while others portray the colors in the classic form. Many of the Olympians have ink to represent their last win, like at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This includes Team USA gymnast Simone Biles, who got her first tattoo in 2017 after dominating the games.

The ink isn't just symbolic for Olympic athletes — it's also seen on plenty of Paralympic athlethes as well, although until Aug. 24, athletes competing in the Paralympics were required to cover up any tattoos that featured logos. (The Paralympics and the Olympics are two different entities, governed by different bodies, and have different logos.) Previously, showing off an Olympic rings tattoo could be seen as advertising, and there were even a few cases of athletes being disqualified for not covering up their Olympic rings tattoos.

Craig Spence, IPC's chief brand and communications officer, told the New York Times, "Athletes with such tattoos do not need to cover them up." However, he didn't specify on why the ban had been lifted.

Either way, we've seen the rings pop up on all areas of the body, including the legs, wrists, arms, and even the feet. There are large versions that take up entire areas, and much smaller versions as well. Keep scrolling to take a closer look at all of the Olympic tattoos that have popped up in the games so far, and some of our favorite iterations from years past.
