The 2025 Grammy Awards brought many history-making moments for the world to see, but the beauty looks were just as referential. As the industry's biggest stars gathered at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 2, the red carpet boasted plenty of beauty inspiration. We're talking a mix of Old Hollywood glam and maximalism, from retro bobs to classic red lips and statement-making tuxedo nails. Of all the styles to dominate music's big night, though, there was one outlier that stood out: the "jellyfish" haircut, further cementing it as an unexpected red carpet-approved trend.

After going viral on TikTok nearly two years ago, the sea animal-themed hairstyle is a mix between a mullet and bowl cut that plays on different shapes and lengths — and it's proving to be the ultimate show of confidence. The cut is usually marked by the top portion sitting on the outer layer of hair, ending around mid-ear, reflecting the bell-shaped body of a jellyfish. The longer layer in the back emulates the tentacles. While the style has been cosigned by a handful of stars before (see: Kerry Washington and Nicole Kidman), iterations of the jellyfish cut at this year's Grammys were seen on Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Billie Eilish — highly reflective of the individualism we continuously see amongst beauty trends today.

Although the style may seem impractical for everyday wear (or is it?) the Grammys showed the trend is versatile and can be worn in high and low-brow ways. As we continue to fill our mood boards with Grammys beauty moments, take a moment to bask in our favorite jellyfish haircuts from the night — plus products to shop, used by celebrity experts.

Miley Cyrus's Jellyfish Haircut at the 2025 Grammy Awards

Miley Cyrus's hairstylist Bob Recine set out to do the opposite of the '70s style she wore for the 2024 Grammys. To get the look, Recine used all products under $20. He started with the Nexxus Prep & Protect Heat Defense Spray ($16) on wet hair, then blow-dried with a flat Mason Pierson brush, adding Nexxus XXL Volume Medium Hold Hairspray ($16) to every dried section to give the hair lasting shine. Recine applied the Nexxus Epic Shine Anti-Humidity Spray ($15) to create that healthy shine we saw, then finished things off with the Nexxus Repair & Nourish Ultra Lightweight Hair Oil ($13) to avoid weighing down the hair and maintain movement throughout the evening.

Billie Eilish reinterpreted red carpet glam with an edgy jellyfish haircut that she debuted two days before at a FireAid benefit concert. The polarizing cut doubled as a bob when the longer part was styled in a ponytail and concealed with a hat. Her new look effortlessly complemented her cool, casual streetwear.

If you ask us, Lady Gaga's jellyfish cut deserves its own Grammy. Her hairstylist, Frederic Aspiras, used all products from Sebastian Professional to achieve her black hairstyle, with the shorter part brilliantly framing her face and the longer part cascading all the way down to her waist. Aspiras prepped the hair by using the brand's Dark Oil Lightweight Shampoo and Conditioner ($20), the No. Breaker Hybrid Bonding and Styling Spray ($36) to prime for styling, and the Trilliant, Thermal Protection and Shimmer Complex Spray ($22) to ensure a smooth, glossy finish. After blow-drying her hair and defining her blunt bangs, he used the Sebastian Professional Dark Oil Lightweight Hair Styling Oil ($24) and the Shaper Regular Hair Spray ($10), to create a shiny, sleek look that served as a perfect backdrop to her bleached eyebrows and soft red lip.
