7 Things You Didn't Know About Alicia Keys's Skin-Care Line, Keys Soulcare

When developing her product lineup, Keys didn't want to focus only on skin care. That's why the line includes ritualistic items such as the Keys Soulcare Sage + Oat Milk Candle ($38), whose smoky, nutty scent is calming. As Keys told Allure, it's "me in a bottle." Or a candle jar.

Unlike some celebrity-backed lines, Keys Soulcare has legitimate dermatological heft behind it, thanks to development help from board-certified dermatologist Renée Snyder. She ensured that each product would be effective and formulated with the most current actives. Keys Soulcare Skin Transformation Cream ($30), the highlight of the collection, contains the next-gen (and very, very clean) skin brightener bakuchiol, which provides benefits similar to retinol's, without the irritation.

Another point of pride: this isn't about looking perfect, it's about feeling good. "Beauty is your inner radiance! It's about frequency, energy and how you feel," Keys wrote on Instagram of her beauty philosophy. That's why there are offerings meant to encourage a moment for yourself. For example, a spritz of Keys Soulcare Reviving Aura Mist ($22) is meant to tone and moisturize skin while also calming the senses with its pretty rose scent.

And because everyone likes their skin care to be slightly different, some products allow for customization. Keys Soulcare Be Luminous Exfoliator ($22) cleverly becomes an exfoliator as gentle or intense as you'd like. Hojicha powder and lactic acid are part of the powder exfoliant; add water, and the formula becomes a creamy foam with mild microgranules to buff away dull skin cells. Use it as Keys does: two or three times a week, using circular, upward motions.

The entire (cleanly formulated!) line is all about making skin care a rewarding ritual, but it also includes a few on-the-go options such as Keys Soulcare Comforting Balm ($12). The vanilla-scented balm treats dry lips, elbows, cuticles, heels, knees — basically anywhere that can benefit from its moisturizing mix of camellia seed oil, avocado oil, shea butter, and rose of Jericho. The purple glass packaging of Keys Soulcare Golden Cleanser ($20) is inspired by amethyst, one of Keys's favorite stones. Inside, the sandalwood-scented formula draws upon Ayurvedic tradition by using turmeric, plus it has calming chamomile and manuka honey (especially helpful for easily congested complexions).

Each product in the line comes with its own affirmation, meant to be focused on or spoken aloud while being used. For the Keys Soulcare Obsidian Facial Roller ($25), it's this: "I am strong, capable, and unstoppable." Keys likes to use it to release tension in her face and neck muscles, and it has to be said: that black stone is so quietly chic.
