Yara Shahidi showed up to the 2021 Critics' Choice Awards looking eccentric as ever in a colorful embroidered top and tulle skirt from Dior's spring/summer 2021 collection, and the hairstyle she wore was just playful as her ensemble. The Grown-ish star presented at the ceremony with a chic topknot that towered inches above her head and had thick, blue thread weaved throughout.

Shahidi's hairstylist Nikki Nelms shared a few details about the actress's look on Instagram, and in a statement, she mentioned that she chose the threaded topknot as a way to match the overall theme of her outfit: "For Yara's hair, we took the lead from her amazing, whimsical dress. It is a stylish, fun, and airy topknot that stands out, even on Zoom," she said.

To get the look, Nelms used an elastic band to tie Shahidi's hair into a high ponytail before tying in the thread and adding one braid for extra dimension. Next, she used the Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Ultra-Hold Gel ($9) to prevent flyaways from popping up at the base of the ponytail and followed up with the Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie ($9) to add extra definition to her curls.

She finished by securing every strand with the Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce Ultra Firm Finishing Spray ($20). You can shop all three products used ahead.
