When Mindy Kaling's Daughter Saw Kamala Harris Become Vice President, She Asked, "Is That Mommy?"

Want to know what representation looks like? Mindy Kaling offered up a pretty adorable example following the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday.

In an Instagram post, the mom of two shared a rare photo of her 3-year-old daughter, Katherine, watching a TV screen as Harris took the oath of office to become the nation's first female, first Black, and first Indian American VP.

"I was at work, but apparently she said: 'Is that Mommy? It looks like mommy,'" Kaling wrote. "Best compliment I ever got! It matters. Happy Inauguration, everyone."

Mindy has been open about how meaningful this moment is for her family and for other people of color. On Nov. 7, when it was announced that Biden and Harris had officially won the election, she posted on Instagram that she was crying and holding her daughter. She wrote that she said, "Look baby, she looks like us."
