I'm reminiscing with SNL's Cecily Strong about our earliest Triscuit memories. "When I grew up, my mom would put Triscuits with shredded cheddar cheese in the microwave for 20 seconds. It was our version of nachos," she tells me. What a thrifty hack, especially for those all-too-often days when we must be extra resourceful in the kitchen. However, she's refined her Triscuit snack-making as of late. Cecily explains, "I've moved on to goat cheese." She's referring to her favorite Triscuit topping. "[I]f theaters would sell me goat cheese and garlic with Triscuit crackers, I'd give them all my money," Cecily told Bon Appetit magazine in an interview. From this declaration, a partnership formed, and Cecily is now starring in two Triscuit TV commercials.
Cecily is gearing up for the second commercial to air on Aug. 21. This time, it's to promote Triscuit's Non-GMO Project Certification and its commitment to starting with three simple ingredients: whole grain wheat, oil, and sea salt. In the meantime, she's taking a much-needed break before SNL picks back up again this Fall. She says last season "was an intense season" and she's "still unpacking it." Though she couldn't pinpoint a favorite sketch from last season ("It's so hard — it moves so fast.") she did say she "really enjoyed working with two writers, James [Anderson] and Kent [Sublette]." Cecily added that she also loves "any time we get to play with animals;" see Gemma with the mini pig.
