No matter what someone's wellness routine looks like, it's a safe bet that they spend at least some time thinking about how to get a restful night of sleep. In fact, a recent Gallup poll revealed that more than half of Americans surveyed said they would feel better if they got more sleep.

With so many of us obsessing over our sleep, it's no wonder that the hunt for the best sleep products, from cooling sheets to weighted blankets, can feel overwhelming. Your pillow is one of the most crucial parts of your bedtime setup, so when we got the chance to test Coop's The Original Adjustable Pillow ($75), three editors eagerly raised our hands.

Unlike traditional pillows, Coop's version is customizable. The pillow's packaging lays out three ways to try it: as-is, for side sleepers; with about one-quarter of the memory foam fill removed, for back sleepers; and with about one-third of the memory foam film removed, for stomach sleepers. It even comes with extra memory foam fill, if you prefer a plusher feel.

What's the Criteria for a Good Pillow?

On the most basic level, a good pillow needs to help you get a quality night of sleep. A pillow that's comfortable and provides proper neck alignment — neither cranked upward nor tilting downward — is key.

Coop's proprietary blend of medium firm memory-foam-and-microfiber fill looked promising, so three editors took it for a spin over the course of a week. Read on for their full reviews of Coop's The Original Adjustable Pillow — and find out if their sleep patterns changed at all.

"Until recently, I never took my choice of pillow very seriously. For most of my adult life, I went for cheap, affordable options that did the job, but right around the time I turned 30, I started noticing a change in my sleep quality. I began waking up with a persistent crick in my neck or soreness on one side from sleeping in a strange position, and I suspected sub-par pillows were part of the issue.

I upgraded to a fairly standard down alternative pillow, but still wasn't having great sleep. Sleeping on The Original Adjustable Pillow is a totally different experience, though. It has the cushiness of memory foam, but a little more fluff than a standard memory foam pillow, so it feels plush but still moldable to your head. For me, that makes for an incredibly comfortable night's sleep — with no neck issues the next day. I can't imagine going back to a basic pillow now." — Annalise Mantz, associate director, Branded Content

"I'm picky when it comes to pillows. As a combo sleeper who switches between their back and side, I prefer one that's both firm and fluffy, which is surprisingly hard to come by. I find memory foam to be too hard and down not supportive enough for my neck. But this pillow's memory foam and microfiber fill blend turned out to be the perfect middle ground for me — it felt softer than a standard memory-foam pillow, but still lofted enough for my head and neck to be comfortable. I know this isn't everyone's preference, so I appreciate that Coop offers extra memory foam to adjust your pillow to your liking. I took advantage of the personalization, and have been playing around with adding and removing fill to see how it feels every few nights." — Yerin Kim, features editor

"Want to hear something gross? I recently realized that I hadn't washed my pillows in, well, a long time. So, I opened up the pillow covers and to my true disgust, the latex foam had literally disintegrated. It was right then and there that I decided I needed to finally become a real adult and invest in my pillow game.

I'm a side and stomach sleeper (yes, I know, I really should sleep on my back but it just doesn't work), so my biggest concerns are neck and shoulder pain. I also find that with pillows that are too soft and flat, my arms fall asleep when I'm on my side, making me wake up in the middle of the night in total discomfort. I landed on the Coop adjustable pillow after doing a ton of research on pillows that work for side and stomach sleepers.

My Coop pillow is stuffed with the full as-is foam and the extra foam that's provided, which I've found creates the perfect height-to-softness ratio that keeps my neck in place in both positions. I can say that after a few months of using it, my sleep — and my waking hours — have greatly improved. My one gripe about this pillow is the pattern on the cover. I use white silk pillowcases, and you can see right through them. I wish the pillow cover was more neutral for those of us who want an all-white bedding setup." — Aviel Kanter, director, Branded Content
