Ivanka Trump Previews How She'll Handle Potential Damage to Her Brand
Ivanka Trump has been relatively mum about her father's degrading comments about women. After nearly two weeks, she opened up during Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit in Laguna Niguel, CA, giving us insight into how she may try to distance herself from her father politically in order to protect her own brand.
Expanding on her brief statement to Fast Company, Ivanka revealed how she might handle future questions after the election while being interviewed by Time's editor Nancy Gibbs. "He recognizes it was crude language," Ivanka said. "He was embarrassed that he had said those things and he apologized."
Seeming to distance herself, at least vaguely, Ivanka also expressed how her opinions are not necessarily shared by her father. "He is very much his own man, just like I am very much my own woman. I have opinions; my opinions are my own. I express them to him when I am excited, when I am disappointed, and everywhere in between."
Though some might find it difficult to separate Ivanka's beliefs from her father's, she made a point to address that she is not a "campaign mastermind" and she would not answer questions on policy since she is not the candidate. "I'm not a surrogate," Ivanka told Gibbs. "I'm a daughter. I stood in front of the RNC and shared that I'm an Independent."
Ivanka also quelled another concern: that her father might not accept the outcome since he claims the election is rigged. "He'll either win or he won't win," she said. "I believe he will accept the outcome either way." Let's hope Ivanka is right.
